Case Study: DFM Protecting a 150-Year-Old Estate Bungalow in Pachakkanam

When Ms. Beena reached out to DFM Greenland India, it wasn’t her first time trusting the team. Her home in Kanjirapally had a termite treatment with DFM four years ago, and she hasn’t seen a single termite since. So when her old British-era bungalow in Pachakkanam Estate, Vandiperiyar, began showing signs of termite damage, she didn’t want to take chances.

The bungalow sits inside a vast 540-acre estate, surrounded by dense greenery and moisture. With the building being more than a century old and filled with wooden beams, ceilings, cupboards, and panels, the risk of termite damage was extremely high.

The Situation

The first concern wasn’t what termites were visible on the surface — it was what could be happening inside the old wooden structure. The age of the building, along with the estate’s humid climate, made the bungalow an easy target. A regular treatment wouldn’t work here. The place needed a method strong enough to reach the deep structure but safe enough to preserve the heritage elements.

How DFM Approached?

Instead of rushing into drilling or chemical use, the team began with a slow, careful walk-through of every room, corridor, and wooden section. The idea was simple: understand the building first.

Once the activity points were identified, a plan was mapped out:

Floor Drill + Foundation Injection

Small drill points were created directly on the floor. These holes were used to push termiticide into the older foundation layers where live colonies were hiding.

Interior Wooden Areas Treated Fully

The team worked on every kuttiḷ, beam, window frame, cupboard, wall panel, and any section where wood met the structure. Older wood absorbs termite activity quickly, so complete coverage was necessary.

Wooden Ceilings Strengthened

The decorative ceilings and wooden panels were given extra chemical support to stop termites that travel through hollow spaces.

Eco-friendly Bayer Chemical Used

The same Bayer product that worked well in her Kanjirapally home was used again. High-pressure and temperature-controlled machines helped the chemical spread evenly inside the building’s older joints.

Chemical Barrier Formed Inside the Structure

To prevent any new termite entry, a continuous shield was formed in the treatment zones.

What Changed After the Treatment?

  • Termite activity stopped completely
  • All major wooden elements received deep protection
  • The bungalow now has a strong, long-lasting barrier
  • Warranty was provided as per Bayer standards
  • Free re-treatment available during the warranty period

Thanks to the step-by-step method, the 150-year-old British-era bungalow is now stable, safe, and protected from future termite problems.
